π₯ Fear and Desire (1953) β β β
Stanley Kubrick’s directorial debut, and I liked it very much. I don’t really get all the hate this film gets. Being a student film made on a tight budget, it really has to be watched like that.

π₯ Avatar (2009) β β β
Rewatch with the family at home, in preparation for the sequel in our local cinema. Our daughter loved it. I enjoyed watching it in upscaled 4K, but found the story even more problematic than the first timeβ¦
π₯ White Noise β β β
Watched with friends. We agreed that it was a well made film with a lot of visual spectacle, but also a bit over the top regarding references to other films and genres. Nevertheless, a nice first watch of the year.
π₯ Loving Vincent (2017) β β β Β½
π₯ Scrooge (1970) β β β Β½ & A Christmas Carol (1984) β β β β
Both films bring back vivid memories from my childhood. After a rewatch of the 80s version with my youngest daughter, I think I slightly prefer George C. Scott’s interpretation above Albert Finney’s.
π₯ The Fallout (2021) β β β β
Beautifully shot and heartfelt film written and directed by Megan Park, about the aftermath of a school shooting and how teenagers are dealing with a traumatic experience like this, among all normal challenges. Jenna Ortega is a very talented actress.
π₯ The Poseidon Adventure (1972) β β β
πΊ The Bear (2022) β β β β
Just finished watching this excellent series. Great plot. Vivid, raw cinematography. But it’s the great acting across the whole cast (Jeremy Allen White, Ebon Moss-Bachrachhat, Ayo Edebiri, a.o.) that stood out the most. Highly recommended.
π₯ Back to the Future (1985) β β β β
Enjoyed watching this childhood classic with the whole family tonight. Found this great original pre-production image of the design of the DeLorean at Moviestillsdb.com.
π₯ Star Wars - Episode I: The Phantom Menace (1999) β β Β½
Watched with my youngest daughter, who got curious about the Star Wars Universe after we started watching Obi-Wan Kenobi a few weeks ago. She wasn’t too impressed, so now I regret that we started in chronological order…
π₯ The Man with the Golden Gun (1974)
Getting ready for watching yet another Bond film, this time while doing an indoor rowing workout.
π₯ Live and Let Die (1973) β β β
In my quest of watching every Bond in chronological order, I got pretty tired of all the bad jokes and lazy plots. Even though this first one with Roger Moore is even more campy than all previous Bond films, it actually got me back on track.
π₯ Enemy of the State (1998) β β β Β½
Started watching by chance on television and never stopped. Very suspenseful action thriller and a true 90s gem by the great Tony Scott. Great cast also, Gene Hackman is absolutely killing it.
π₯ Diamonds are Forever (1971) β β
The last Bond with Sean Connery didn’t age well… Misogynistic and even racist at times. The first appearance of a black Bond Girl by Trina Parks was great though and made up for it a lot. Love this behind the scenes photo.
π₯ Hellraiser (1987) β β β β
I guess it was time to finally watch this 80s classic. A proper horror movie for sure. Now I want to see more of the Cenobites…
π₯ Lightyear (2022) β β & Luck (2022) β β Β½.
Knowing ‘Lightyear’ was Andy’s favourite movie back in 1995 sort of ruined Toy Story for me.
‘Luck’ felt like a low budget indie animation film. Actually liked the androgynous creature called ‘Jeff the Unicorn’, but donβt ask why.
π₯ Bohemian Rhapsody (2018) β β β β
π₯ On Her Majestyβs Secret Service β β Β½
πΊ Ms. Marvel (2022) β β Β½
A Marvel series that checks all the storytelling boxes. Colourful and vivid, but also completely couloured inside the lines.
π₯ You Only Live Twice (1967) β β Β½
Except maybe for the gigantic stage designs, I didnβt like anything particular in this fifth James Bond film.
π₯ Thunderball (1965) β β β
I was pretty skeptical beforehand, but I actually did enjoy this one. Maybe it was the Exotica / Martin Denny style of the soundtrack, or the sometimes ‘experimental’ montage style of editing that made it a worthwhile watch.
π₯ Goldfinger (1964) β β β Β½
You can’t deny the blatant misogyny in this third James Bond instalment (naming a character Pussy Galore is justβ¦ wellβ¦). Still, this is perhaps the most iconic one of them all, with Goldfinger as the perfect villain.
π₯ Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022) β β Β½
Stephen Strange, somewhere, in an alternate, parallel, multiversal reality:
βThere might be another, other, other me.β
Superhero fatigue really is a thingβ¦
π₯ From Russia With Love (1963) β β β
To me, Lotte Lenya as Rosa Klebb was the real Bond Girl here.
