Short visit to the exhibition Vensters in Museum IJsselstein, while I was there to create some visual documentation of my video-installation that is still on display as well. And also to make some preparations for an upcoming soundwalk scheduled for the spring of 2023.

Last Friday, I went to an interesting symposium as part of the exhibition Mountains and Molehills in Eye Filmmuseum, a retrospective of the work of Fiona Tan, which I also visited afterwards. I especially enjoyed the lecture of my personal hero Douwe Draaisma, on photography and memory.

Imagine Intuition exhibition - Museum De Lakenhal, Leiden. Highlight of the show was Mother and Child by Bram Ellens: two robotic arms behaving in a very human fashion.

Had a lovely weekend in Alkmaar, with delicious vegetarian Indian food and an exhibition in Stedelijk Museum Alkmaar with a retrospective of Rudi van de Wint.

Went to a contemporary art exhibition inside a local garden center!

Went to the exhibition Come Alive, on eroticism as a creative energy, in beautiful Muntgebouw in Utrecht. Loved seeing the work of our good friend Wafae Ahalouch el Keriasti on display as well.

Short visit with the family to beautiful Landhuis Oud-Amelisweerd, just an half hour bike ride from home. Solo exhibition by Amie Dicke, and also ‘Gardening’, a group exhibition on nature and technology, curated by Creative Coding Utrecht.

Enjoying the final projects of my hard working students, during the graduation show of the HKU School of Media. Great to be able to just walk around again, really experience all the projects and have a little chat with everyone!

Also at MuHKA was an exhibition on sound art and the ways the museum historically paid attention to this emerging art form: A NON-U-MENTAL HISTORY OF M HKA – Part 2: What must be heard. This letter from Laurie Anderson to the museum stood out the most to me.

Due to Corona restrictions our Dez Mona & B.O.X. concert in Antwerp got postponed. Since the hotel was already booked we went anyway and visited the excellent Eurasia exhibition at M HKA, with (a.o.) a very confronting and moving work by Sara Sejin Chang (Sara van der Heide).

Visit with the family to the Re_Nature contemporary art festival, ‘s Hertogenbosch.

This week, I paid a visit to the beautiful Klok en Peel museum in Asten, a small museum with an extensive collection and library on the subject of bells. I was there for discussing a small commissioned job, but also for research on my upcoming soundscape project on city bells.

Performance by Nina Glockner at RAUM Utrecht.

We went to a great exhibition at AVL Mundo in Rotterdam today: Fake Me Hard.

On the cutting-edge of art and technology, FAKE ME HARD explores the complex reality of the 21 st century with futuristic installations by over 40 artists, performances, and debates

On our way back from a great first week of our holiday, we went to beautiful Museum De Fundatie in Zwolle. It was our first museum visit in a very long time! A lot of activist art by Dadaist John Heartfield, among contemporary examples, even some by colleagues from HKU.

Made a visit to Museum Het Valkhof in Nijmegen, where archeology and modern art meet. Especially enjoyed the first exhibition of the Cool Collection series, by guest curators Flos Wildschut and Jessica Helbach.

Had a great day at Museum Voorlinden, Wassenaar. We very much enjoyed works by Louise Bourgeois, Anselm Kiefer, Anish Kapoor and Rineke Dijkstra, among others.

After a week of several Mid Year Assessments at HKU, I’m tired but very satisfied with all the great projects our students presented.

Very proud of all the participating students of the video and audio workshop at the Academy of Theatre and Dance in Amsterdam, who had their public presentation today. They all got way out of their comfort zone and made very personal, vulnerable works of art.

🎥 Finally had a chance to visit Andrei Tarkovsky: the exhibition in Eye Filmmuseum Amsterdam. The multi screen setup didn’t do his films justice in my opinion. But there were a lot of interesting handwritten manuscripts and beautiful Polaroids of dreamy landscapes.

Made a short visit with the family to ‘Self-publish or be damned’ at AG Utrecht. A beautiful ode to DIY publishing in various local subcultures in the past and present.
